LUCKNOW: In a grim reminder of Delhi’s Kanjhawala case, a Class 9 student suffered multiple fractures when his bicycle was hit by a car, got entangled in its bumper and dragged for 2km in Hardoi on Friday.
The entire incident was caught live on CCTV cameras installed on the main road.
The incident comes days after a 20-year-old girl was killed after being dragged by a car for 12km in Delhi. Police said that the local residents chased and stopped the errant driver and handed him over to the police.
The driver, Jitendra Shukla, was sent to jail on Saturday.
Station house officer, Hardoi Kotwali, Sanjay Kumar Pandey said that Ketan (15), a resident of Ashanagar, was going to attend his coaching classes on a bicycle, with his friends Kunal and Ansh who were riding their own bicycles.
Driver booked for culpable homicide
W hen Ketan reached Amar Jawan crossing, his bicycle was hit by a four-wheeler. The bicycle got stuck in the rear portion of the car but the driver did not stop the vehicle and continued to drag Ketan towards Nagetha road. His friends raised an alarm and tried to stop the driver but he sped towards Asharfatola turn and then on Cinema Road. He was intercepted by a crowd who blocked the road and vandalised the car,” Pandey said, adding that the police rushed the boy to the district hospital. “The boy has suffered multiple fractures on his left leg,” he said. Ketan’s father Hariom is a farmer. “The driver has been booked on charges of culpable homicide. We found that Jitendra was not drunk at the time of the incident. The vehicle belongs to a local businessman Jagvir Singh and Jitendra works as his driver,” he said. “We have recorded the statements of local residents, and of Ketan’s friends Kunal and Ansh,” Pandey said.
