LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed officials to complete all preparations for the inauguration of the country’s longest cruise between Varanasi and Dibrugarh by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13.
Chairing a meeting of Team 9 on Monday, the CM also directed officials to ensure that religious sentiments of ‘kalpwasis’ and seers are respected during the Magh Mela in Prayagraj and best possible facilities are provided to them. The Ganga Vilas Cruise will traverse 3,200km from Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of PM Narendra Modi, and end the journey in Assam’s Dibrugarh, passing through two other states, and Bangladesh, in 51 days.
“The cruise will start from the banks of the Ganga and will enter Bangladesh through West Bengal and then enter India again in Assam. It will pass through 27 river systems of India and Bangladesh and will stop at more than 50 important spots, including sites like the Sundarban delta and Kaziranga National Park,” a government spokesman said.
He said that from Varanasi, the cruise will cross through Ghazipur and then enter Bihar at Buxar. It will stop in Patna and then sail into West Bengal through Farakka.
From Murshidabad, the cruise will enter Kolkata from where its journey to Bangladesh will start. The cruise will dock at Dhaka and then sail back into India through Guwahati, cross Sibsagar and finally dock at Dibrugarh. In its initial run, the cruise, with 32 Swiss nationals on board, started from Kolkata on December 22 and will reach Varanasi on January 6. The CM also expressed satisfaction over the paddy procurement process. So far, more than 41 lakh tons of paddy has been procured from 6.5 lakh farmers at MSP. The cost of purchase has been Rs 8,400 crore and the government has paid Rs 6,700 crore to farmers through direct bank transfer.
“The remaining Rs 1,700 crore should be paid soon. The availability of DAP and urea should be monitored in all districts and there should be no shortage of fertilizer anywhere,” the CM said. He also praised the Barabanki administration for holding day-long investors’ and exporters’ conference ahead of Global Investors’ Summit-2023.
