VARANASI : One Hira Rayin (32) of Darbhanga in Bihar jumped off a moving train in his bid to save his 3-year-old daughter near Bahedwa halt in Varanasi on Sunday. They both died in the freak accident.
Inspector Rajiv Singh of Mirzamurad police station said that the incident came to light after Rayin’s wife Zarina Khatoon pulled the chain to stop the train and locals reported the matter to police. Bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination, he said, adding that local relatives of Rayin and his wife reached the police station.
Rayin, a native of Ghanshyampur village of Bhavanipur area in Darbhanga district of Bihar, was employed in a private company in Delhi. On Saturday, he boarded the Swatantrata Senani Express from New Delhi with his wife, daughter Rozy Parveen and brother-in-law Firoz to reach Darbhanga.
Firoz informed police that due to unavailability of space in the general compartmentof train, they had boarded a sleeper coach after a TTE assured them to allot berths. He said that as the TTE could not arrange berths for them, they were sitting near the doors of the sleeper coach. While playing there, Rozy fell off the moving train, he said, adding that Rayin jumped to save her.
Zarina pulled the chain to stop the train after which their co-passengers reached the injured father and daughter. Police said that Rozy died on the spot while Rayin was rushed to hospital but died on the way.
