PRAYAGRAJ: Two schoolkids died while over 20 others were injured when a bus carrying 80 passengers, including teachers, students and staff of Kanti Devi Janata Vidyalaya, Jaunpur, overturned near Bheski village of Saidabad, around 40 km from the district headquarters, under Handia police station jurisdiction of Prayagraj on Saturday morning.
All the injured, including five schoolkids, were rushed to CHC Handia. While the five injured children were later referred to the SRN Hospital in the city, rest of the injured persons were discharged after first-aid, said the police, adding that the bus overturned while trying to save a bike rider. Two students, aged around 14 years, died on the spot.
“Two students, Ankit and Anurag, have died in the accident while five students are undergoing treatment. The rest of the students and staff members of the school have been sent back to their native place in Jaunpur,” said DCP Ganganagar, Abhishek Agarwal.
Handia police have registered a case.
The police further informed TOI that the bus coming to Prayagraj was carrying 83 passengers, including students of class 9-12, teachers and staff of Kanti Devi Public School, Jaunpur. They were to visit Anand Bhawan from where they were to go to Mangarh in Pratapgarh.
As the bus was heading towards the city from Handia at around 8.30 am on Saturday morning, a bike rider Santosh along with his companion Satish came in front of the bus near Bheski village of Saidabad. The bus driver, while trying to save the bike rider, applied brakes following which the bus overturned.
Of the two students who have died in the accident, Anurag was the only brother among three sisters. His father is an auto driver and both Anurag and his sister Anu were travelling in the bus. The second deceased student, Ankit Ghorha, was a resident of Sureri village. He was the youngest of two brothers and one sister and was studying in class 9
