PITHORAGARH: A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 80-year-old maternal aunt on Wednesday night in the Odamath village of Pithoragarh. He was produced in the court on Thursday and sent for 14 days judicial custody.
The SHO of Jajardewal police station Madan Singh Bisht said that the accused Mukesh Singh was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the crime. He barged into the elderly woman’s house, beat her, and then raped her.
Villagers reached the spot after hearing the victim’s cries and beat the accused but he managed to run away. He was later arrested from a forest near the village where he had taken shelter. Following the incident, police conducted a medical examination of the woman and lodged a case against Singh under IPC sections 376, 452 and 323.
