BAREILLY: An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district on Tuesday, police said on Thursday.
Police registered a case under sections of rape and POCSO Act on the basis of a complaint by the girl’s uncle and arrested the accused father, a cobbler, on Wednesday. He was under the influence of alcohol while committing the crime, alleged victim’s uncle. The survivor was sent for medical examination on Thursday, said Baheri circle officer Tejveer Singh.
The victim was born from the first wife of the accused who died years after their marriage. Later, the girl started living in a joint family with her uncle after her father’s second marriage. Victim’s uncle said, “My brother was sleeping inside the room with his wife while my niece was sleeping outside. At midnight, we heard someone screaming for help and we immediately rushed towards my brother’s room, when we caught him in the act. We rescued our niece. While my brother was high on alcohol, his wife was not bothered about what was happening. My niece told me that she was assaulted once in the past as well. We had no option other than making a police complaint as my brother is a habitual offender.”
Singh said, “We have registered an FIR under sections 376ab (rape on a woman less than 12 years of age) of IPC along with relevant sections of the Pocso Act. The accused father has been arrested and sent to jail. We are probing the role of survivor’s stepmother and if found guilty, her name will be added in the FIR.”
(The victim’s indentity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court’s directives on cases related to sexual assault)
