Minutes after the hour-long meeting concluded, Shivpal asked his supporters to ensure Dimple Yadav’s victory with a margin bigger than Mulayam’s. Shivpal’s son Aditya Yadav was also present at the meeting.

Akhilesh tweeted a photo of the meeting with Shivpal at the latter’s Saifai residence.
“We have the blessing of our family elders along with that of Netaji (Mulayam) and people of Mainpuri,” Akhilesh tweeted in Hindi. Later, Shivpal also shared photographs of the meeting and wrote: “Jis bagh ko seecha ho khud Netaji ne, us bagh ko ab hum seechenge apne khoon paseene se (Now I will give my sweat and blood to nurture the garden that has been watered by Netaji).”
Bypoll in Mainpuri was necessitated after the demise of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in October.
“We have to ensure Dimple Yadav’s victory in the bypoll with a margin that is bigger than what the SP candidates, including Netaji, have won till now,” Shivpal said.
Shivpal is the sitting MLA from Jaswantnagar, an important assembly segment of Mainpuri parliamentary constituency.
Having been elected from the constituency for the sixth consecutive term, Shivpal enjoys a noticeable hold over the electorate in the region and him calling for landslide victory for Dimple was expected to yield the desired results for SP.
He heads the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party–Lohia (PSP-L) with son Aditya Yadav as its state president that was formed after the rift within the SP ahead of the 2017 polls.
Shivpal’s son Aditya Yadav, talking exclusively to TOI, said: “We have rolled up our sleeves to ensure Dimple Bhabhi’s victory in the bypoll. We will reach out to the voters in Jaswantnagar and the rest of the regions of Mainpuri parliamentary constituency.” Aditya said there was no doubt in his mind that Dimple Yadav will win the bypoll with a huge margin.
“Jawwantnagar assembly segment has always given the biggest margin of victory to SP candidates in Mainpuri Lok Sabha elections since 2004. We will make sure that this trend is maintained with an improvement,” he said.
Shivpal and Aditya’s call to their supporters to ensure SP candidate Dimple Yadav’s victory in Mainpuri bypoll gains significance in the light of the fact that the BJP candidate in fray Raghuraj Singh Shakya has been a close associate of Shivpal Yadav and had quit his Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party–Lohia to join the BJP earlier this year.
Both Shivpal and Aditya were expected to actively go out to campaign for Dimple from Friday onwards. Sources said with the SP having not proposed any public rally in the first phase of the campaigning, the two will reach out to the people through door-to-door campaigns and small get-togethers for the next few days. Dimple is also scheduled to join the two in phases.
On Tuesday, Akhilesh had included Shivpal’s name in list of party’s star campaigners for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll, something that the party had not done for the Azamgarh and Rampur Lok Sabha bypolls held earlier this year. The move has led to speculations that the two will soon come together.
