LUCKNOW: The Lucknow police on Friday arrested another accused, Mohammed Tariq, in connection with Alaya Apartment collapse which claimed three lives and left nearly a dozen injured.
On Thursday, rescuers recovered the body of another woman, Shabana (42), a teacher at a school in Unnao. She was a resident of flat number 201 of the building.
One of the accused, Nawazish, was arrested from Meerut on Wednesday. After the arrest of Tariq from Hazratganj, hunt is on for the remaining accused, Fahad Yazdani.
Marathon operations continued to clear the debris.
‘ACP rank officer to guard belongings’
An FIR was lodged against the builder of Alaya Apartment – Nawazish Shahid, who is the son of SP MLA Shahid Manzoor, his cousin Mohammad Tariq and Fahad Yazdani – at Hazratganj police station on Wednesday.
Deputy commissioner of police, central zone, Aparna Rajat Kaushik, said: “Mohammed Tariq, cousin of SP MLA Shahid Manzoor, has been arrested. He has been booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 420 (fraud), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.” Section 304 (culpable homicide) was added to the FIR on Friday.
“Prima facie it has been found that the three were partners in the construction of the apartment. Hunt is on for the third accused,” Kaushik added.
Meanwhile, marathon operations continued on Friday to clear the debris of the five-storey residential apartment that had collapsed on Tuesday evening.
Lucknow police commissioner SB Shiradkar said that with the recovery of Shabana’s body, all occupants of the apartment have now been accounted for. “In all, 17 people were trapped under the debris of whom 14 were rescued with minor injuries while three of them could not be saved,” he said.
“A team, along with the personnel of other agencies, is clearing the rubble. An officer of ACP rank has been deployed to ensure that belongings of the residents are not lost and handed over to them. A box has been fixed for each family and all the cash, valuables, and gadgets are being deposited in it. As and when the families come, it will be handed over to them,” the police commissioner said.
