VARANASI: The Anti Terorist Squad (ATS) of UP Police arrested absconding arms smuggler Sayyad Qazi from Manduri area in Azamgarh district on Sunday night. Qazi was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for leads leading to his arrest. His two aides Aftab Alam and Moinuddin Sheikh had already been arrested by the ATS on October 27 with a huge recovery of arms and ammunition from them.
According to reports, a case was registered against four accused in a case of selling and smuggling of weapons, in which three had already been arrested. The fourth accused Qazi had been absconding for a long time. He was accused of selling and smuggling weapons manufactured in Bilariaganj to different parts of eastern UP. A case was registered against him in Kaiserbagh police station of Lucknow and Azamgarh Kotwali police station.
According to the ATS officials, an illegal arms factory was set up on farming land in Ibrahimpur village of Devara area of Azamgarh. In flood time, the accused used to operate the factory from their homes.
