AGRA: A day after BJP state president Bhupendra Singh accused the opposition of hatching a conspiracy to delay the civic body election in UP, members of the opposition hit back at the ruling party.
State president of the Samajwadi Party, Naresh Uttam, said, “They are lying… We have full faith in the court.” BSP MP Fazlur Rahman added, “BJP is misleading the people. The government can reserve any seat for civic polls but they didn’t. Why didn’t the BJP reserve enough seats for SC and OBC?”
Notably, several petitioners filed separate petitions alleging the government of not following the actual process of implementing the OBC reservation in civic body polls. It has been alleged that despite clear guidelines of the SC, the UP government issued a draft notification on December 5, without a “triple test”, which included the seats reserved for OBCs.
The court later stayed the announcement of the dates of the UP civic election. The Allahabad HC has now fixed the next hearing date on January 2, related to a separate petition filed by Asad Zama, a former councillor of Muzaffarnagar nagar palika.
