BAREILLY: A 12-year-old boy was killed after an 11-year-old smashed a glass bottle on his head in a fight during a wedding ceremony in Bareilly on Thursday night.
Police said that both the boys were dancing during the event when the fight started due to reasons that were unknown, and Kamal Kumar was hit on his head. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to head injuries. The accused boy has been booked for culpable homicide and also under the SC/ST Act and sent to a juvenile home.
Kamal, a Class 5 student, was a resident of Ratna Nandpur village under the jurisdiction of Nawabganj police station. His father, Harishankar Diwakar, is a small-time farmer in the village.
On Thursday night, during a wedding in the neighbourhood, when the bride and groom were exchanging garlands and children were dancing on the DJ floor, Kamal had an argument with the accused boy, a resident of Bhojipura village. As Kamal pushed him off the floor, the boy angrily picked up a sauce bottle from a food stall and smashed it on Kamal’s head. He sustained a deep injury on his head and fell unconscious because of excessive blood loss, said police.
Kamal’s father lodged a complaint at Nawabganj police station after the incident.
Nawabganj station house officer (SHO) Rajiv Kumar Singh said, “Since the incident was unintentional, we have booked the minor accused under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) along with the SC/ST Act. The statements of the guests are being recorded.”
