LUCKNOW: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati in a series of tweets on Monday hit out at both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for creating a controversy around Ramcharitmanas and “polarising people”.
The BJP, she said, is known for the politics it does, driven by its narrow political and electoral interests, by creating new controversies, spreading communal and ethnic hatred, getting aggressive over religious conversions and promoting boycott culture but the SP assuming a similar political approach, in the garb of Ramcharitmanas, is unfortunate.

“The controversy that erupted over the remarks made by a SP leader against Ramcharitmanas and then the reactions that came from the BJP and the Samajwadi Party leadership remaining silent on the whole matter, despite all this, clearly shows the two parties are hand in glove on the matter so that people could be polarised on Hindu-Muslim frenzy in the coming elections than the issues that matter,” she said.
She further said that this is exactly what the BJP and the SP had done in the last assembly elections in the state and had made it an utterly polarised election which made it possible for the BJP to return to power.
“This is disgusting,” she said.
