LUCKNOW : The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA) of Lucknow has expressed concern over the law and order situation in AMU after some Kashmiri students were attacked on the campus.
Kashmiri students at AMU have complained of attacks on them and the Jammu & Kashmir Students’ Association (JKSA) of AMU has also written to home minister Amit Shah seeking a probe.
On Tuesday, a video purportedly surfaced showing Kashmiri students being attacked by a group. In the clip, one of the attackers is seen brandishing a pistol.
Students from Kashmir at AMU have been protesting for the last three-four days against the alleged harassment faced by them. The protests started after a December 25 incident when a PhD scholar from Kashmir was allegedly thrashed by other students for requesting them not to play badminton at 1am on the hostel premises at MM Hall.
A JKSA delegation also met Aligarh BJP MP Satish Gautam and demanded “safety and security”.
Talking to TOI, president of AMUOBA Lucknow, Prof Shakeel Ahmad Qidwai said, “It is disturbing that the students have approached the local MP from Aligarh for justice. It reflects that they have lost faith in the university administration”.
