AGRA: In an alleged case of honour killing, a 25-year-old woman was stabbed to death along with her husband (26) in broad daylight and their three-year-old child was left critically injured by her father and brother in Srikara village under jurisdiction of Kotwali Dehat police station of Etah district.
The incident took place at around 11am on Monday when a group of men barged into their house and stabbed them with knives multiple times.
The couple has been identified as Jitendra Kumar, who worked as a welder, and his wife Preeti. Their minor daughter, Aman who was also attacked by a knife, is currently battling for her life at SN Medical College in Agra.
According to Jitendra’s brother Pankaj, he found the bodies of his brother and sister-in-law lying in a pool of blood in their house while his niece was writhing in pain. “Four years ago, my brother married Preeti, a resident of a neighbouring village, against her father Girish Chand’s wish. Upset over this, Girish had given an ultimatum to Jitendra to leave his daughter and move outside the district. He had also publicly threatened to kill the couple. Thereafter, Preeti broke all ties with her family and they moved to the outskirts of the village,” Pankaj stated in the FIR.
Superintendent of police, Udai Shanker Singh, said, “Prima facie, it seems that the family was attacked with a sharp object, probably a knife. The bodies were sent for postmortem examination. The injured child is undergoing medical treatment. The entire matter is being investigated in detail.
Deputy superintendent of police, Rajkumar Singh added, “On the basis of the complaint received, an FIR has been registered under IPC section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Girish, his son and an unknown person.”
