JHANSI: In a fresh attack on the Yogi Adityanath government, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has said that UP deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya “could not help OBCs despite being one himself”.
“Despite hailing from a backward class, Keshav Maurya could not give them their rights and has just talked about their miseries helplessly despite being the Dy CM,” the SP president said.
He was talking to the reporters outside the house of a party worker in Jhansi he had visited on Tuesday morning before leaving for Orai.
Akhilesh also claimed that the UP deputy CM “cannot speak anything on his own, and if he does so, his department will be taken back”.
Notably, in September, Akhilesh had offered to back Keshav Prasad Maurya as UP CM if he broke away with 100 BJP MLAs that he claimed to have support of. The offer had triggered sharp reactions from the BJP.
Maurya had later said that a large number of SP MLAs were in touch with the party for a switchover, but the BJP did not need them as of now. BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary had advised Akhilesh to worry about keeping his own flock together.
In Jhansi on Tuesday, Akhilesh also took on the BJP on the “poor law and order situation in the state”. Akhilesh said the BJP was working on the British policy of divide and rule. He said that they (BJP) never want to talk about real issues and just try to distract people to unrelated issues. “The CM has to admit that there is massive corruption in the state and police are busy extorting money from people,” the former CM said.
He said that unless the CM admits this problem, he cannot control the law and order situation. “In his own constituency Gorakhpur, there are serious law and order problems, especially for women,” he said.
He further demanded custodial death victim Balwant Singh’s family to be compensated with Rs 1 crore and a government job to one of his kin.
