LUCKNOW: Development and beautification of Gomti Riverfront is expected to resume soon under the public-private partnership model.
A meeting of Lucknow Development Authority and irrigation department officials was held on Tuesday, in which it was decided that the two departments will conduct a joint photography and video survey of the area to resume the beautification and development process.
The construction of the Gomti Riverfront started during the Akhilesh Yadav government. The land is owned by the irrigation department and it constructed the riverfront. The task to beautify the banks through horticulture and develop several parks on the banks and their maintenance was given to the LDA.
However, the work had to be stopped after the BJP government came due to a CBI probe following allegations of corruption by some irrigation department officials in the construction of the riverfront.
Though the probe was only for the construction work, taking precautions, the LDA stopped further beautification of the area. During the meeting, LDA vice-chairman Indramani Tripathi directed officials to conduct a joint survey required and get a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the irrigation department.
After getting NOC, Tripathi said, LDA, in partnership with private players, will beautify the parks on the Gomti banks and develop commercial places like marriage lawns.
“The beautification and commercial activity will boost tourism. The revenue earned through it will be used for its upkeep. A committee headed by LDA secretary PK Gangwar has been formed to monitor the project,” he added.
