LUCKNOW: Enforcement Directorate (ED) has moved the court for necessary directions to obtain voice samples of mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. ED claimed that during searches at a Delhi accommodation of Mukhtar, the ED had recovered some CDs and cassettes which were sent to a forensic lab.
ED claims that the recordings recovered from CD and cassettes are communication between Mukhtar Ansari and BSP MP Atul Rai about financial deals. ED further claimed that when Mukhtar was confronted during his remand period about the same, he refused to give his voice sample.
The ED has now moved the court for the same in connection with a PMLA case lodged against Mukhtar in 2021.
A source privy to the probe disclosed that when Mukhtar Ansari was taken on remand in December 2022, he was confronted with tapes, cassettes and played the voice.
“But Mukhtar refused to acknowledge the voice to be his own and senior officers pressed on taking his voice samples and he turned it down too,” said the sources. Thereafter, the officials approached the local court to seek a permission for his taking his voice samples and then sending it to a CFSL.
