LUCKNOW: Economic advisor to the Chief Minister, KV Raju, on Saturday said that education, particularly higher education, will play an important role in helping Uttar Pradesh achieve the one trillion dollar economy.
Chairing a session on ‘UP One-Trillion Dollar Economy’ at the higher education conclave, Raju said: “We need to turn the huge manpower into productive manpower. We want to improve the Gross Enrolment Ratio and this needs collaborations from both within and outside the country.”
He urged the private institutions to come up with new universities to improve GER. “Domestic and international roadshows ahead of the Global Investors Summit has seen an investment of Rs 1.57 lakh crore in education, particularly higher education. Most of them are ready with campus designs. The idea is to make the state highly educated,” he said.
Secretary, department of planning, Alok Kumar said UP had a rich demographic dividend of close to 24 crore people with a median age of 21. “It is imperative that right education and skilling opportunities are provided to youths through private institutions, both domestic and abroad, and public universities,” said Kumar.

An agenda of this magnitude can only be achieved through public-private partnerships and the government is enabling this through proactive, student-centric and investor-centric policy frameworks.”
Principal secretary, technical, professional and skill development and vocational education, Subhash Chandra Sharma said technology plays a vital role in upskilling the skilled youth power. “We are modernising 150 ITIs in collaboration with Tata and the state government. During the process, MoUs worth Rs 5,500 crore will be signed.
Higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyaya said, “Under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, UP has seen a new direction. When I travelled to the Netherlands and Paris for the roadshows, people recognised me and UP with Yogi’s name.”
