LUCKNOW: As many as 16 hotels and hospitals in the city have been found unfit by the fire services department in Lucknow, while 99 other buildings lacked fire safety norms. It was revealed in a survey done by the fire services department.
The 99 buildings include hotels, hospitals, coaching institutes and guest houses across the city. The action by the fire department came only on the direction of Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court after fire in a city-based hotel killed four on September 5, this year.
Chief Fire Officer, Lucknow, Mangesh Kumar said that 16 hotels/hospitals in the city were not following fire safety norms and had no scope of improvement so we have asked them to immediately stop operations. These are located in different parts of the city.
“We have sent a notice on these places to the Lucknow police commissioner for further action,” said Kumar.
Kumar said that further inspection found 99 other buildings to be lacking in the fire safety measures and accordingly notices have been issued to the owners/occupiers of such buildings under Section 3/4/5/6 of Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Act, 2005.
“The fire department has also forwarded the notices to the police commissioner for initiating proceedings under Section 133 of the Code of Criminal Procedure against those who did not comply with fire safety norms,” he said.
“A committee will sit in the coming week to decide the fate of the buildings whose occupants/owners have not given us a reply,” he said.
