LUCKNOW: The Yogi Adityanath government is scheduled to table its supplementary budget for 2022-23 in the UP assembly session scheduled to start on Monday amid opposition’s demand to adjourn the house for a day as a mark of respect for SP patriarch and former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav who passed away in October.
The opposition, primarily SP, put forth its demand at an all-party meet which was convened by assembly speaker Satish Mahana on Sunday. Leader of opposition and SP MLA Akhilesh Yadav was not present as he was camping in Mainpuri which goes for bypolls on Monday. Bypolls will also be held in Rampur and Khatauli assembly seats.
Akhilesh was represented by party MLA Manoj Pandey who demanded that the house be adjourned as a tribute to Mulayam. He also said that Akhilesh could not attend the meeting as he was busy with the by-election and was also a voter of Karhal assembly segment in the parliamentary seat.
The upcoming session is scheduled to last till December 7. While the state government seeks to table the supplementary budget on day one, the discussion on budget would take place on Tuesday. The state government is expected to put forth the list of works done before the assembly. On Wednesday, which would be the last day of the upcoming session, only legislative works would be undertaken.
At the same time, the opposition is gearing up to mount an attack on the state government over a host of issues. Pandey said that the state government has failed to provide adequate compensation to farmers besides controlling the spate of diseases like dengue and malaria.
He said that the opposition has played its role in running the house smoothly. “But the state government has a larger role to play,” he insisted. BSP MLA Uma Shankar Singh said that the three-day session was too short for taking up various key issues. Speaker Mahana said that he hoped that the house business would be run smoothly without any disruptions. He said that the role of MLAs was crucial for the house which is undergoing various important changes
