LUCKNOW: The Executive Council (EC) of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Friday terminated the services of a lecturer posted in the ophthalmology department on charges of indiscipline and dereliction of duty.
EC took the decision on recommendation of a six-member disciplinary committee. KGMU officials alleged that Dr Gaurav Kumar, lecturer in ophthalmology, was a repeat offender who had a habit of skipping duty without explanation.
Therefore, a meeting was called at the office of the Vice Chancellor of KGMU on December 30, 2021, to discuss his behaviour and dereliction of duty.
In the meeting he used unparliamentary language and as a result, six days after the incident, KGMU’s head ophthalmology deparment, Prof Apjit Kaur filed a complaint against him citing several incidents of indiscipline.
He was suspended for indiscipline.
Later, he challenged the decision in the High Court which asked KGMU to reinstate him.
Thereafter, VC KGMU Lt Gen (retd) Prof Bipin Puri constituted a disciplinary committee under headship of pro-VC Prof Vineet Sharma and he was suspended again.
When asked, the VC said that a proposal to sack him has been passed by the EC.
TOI approached the faculty member several times but didn’t get any response.
