PRAYAGRAJ: Around 200,000 devotees participated in a holy bath at the Sangam on Sunday, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, in celebration of ‘Maaghi Purnima,’ according to officials.
An official stated that the crowd began gathering as early as 4am, and by noon, approximately 200,000 people had taken a dip at the Sangam. Many people arrived at the location the previous night.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Rajiv Narayan Mishra said that over 5,000 personnel were posted at the venue for security arrangements. River ambulance and floating police outpost were also been arranged, he said.
The next ‘snaan’ of the Maagh Mela will take place on February 18 on the occasion of Mahashivratri, and with that, the Maagh Mela will conclude.
