MEERUT: The forest department with help from the Army establishment has installed 18 cameras and four cages in and around Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) Training College where a leopard has been sighted. The region is adjacent to mall road and due to human movement in the area, the forest department has issued an advisory asking people not to venture out in the dark.
Confirming the development, divisional forest officer Rajesh Kumar told TOI, “We got the information from the army cantonment sources that a leopard-like animal has been sighted in the area. We have installed 18 trapping cameras, 4 trapping cages with bait in abandoned field and vacant plots. Necessary requirements have been put in as per standard operating procedure. Teams have two tranquilizer guns ready if need arises.”
