LUCKNOW: A team of STF on Thursday nabbed three members of a gang involved in selling medicines meant for government hospitals in open market, minting huge money in the process.
Those arrested were identified as Rajneesh Kumar of Triveni Nagar and Nitin Bajpai and Priyanshu Mishra of Madiaon. They were arrested from Chowk flyover. The STF team recovered huge quantity of medicines, three mobile phones, an indentity card of KGMU, a two-wheeler, Rs 3,860 in cash and some documents from them ASP, STF, Vishal Vikram said that the STF team was tipped off that a gang was involved in selling medicines meant for poor patients in KGMU in open market.
The gang used to procure these medicines by producing fake documents. “On Thursday, the STF team again got a tipoff that three gang members were selling medicines to some persons near the Nimbu Park. The team immediately rushed to the spot and nabbed the miscreants,” said Singh. The accused confessed to their crime.
Prime accused Rajnish told the police that he was working as pharmacist on contract basis through outsourcing at a pharmacy shop in KGMU. “Patients registered in KGMU get a rebate of 60% on the purchase of medicines from these pharmacy shops.
Rajnish further told the police that he and his aides, who were working at other pharmacy shops in KGMU, used to purchase these medicines by using the UHID registration number of the patient at discounted price and then sold them at 30% profit in the open market,” Singh said.
The miscreants said that the gang is also active in Trauma Centre and at Gandhi ward and plastic surgery department of KGMU.
