LUCKNOW: Even as dengue menace continues to worry the city, fogging and anti-larvae sprinkling drives are still not up to the mark.
A TOI reality check has found that the drive was not adequately carried out even in localities from where most of the dengue cases are being reported.
TOI contacted 20 people who were tested dengue positive in the last few days and asked them if the mandatory preventive measures, fogging and ant-larva sprinkling against mosquitoes, were carried out in their areas or not after they were diagnosed with the disease.
Of the 20 patients, four said that neither the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) nor health department officials visited their areas for preventive measures. At least 13 patients said fogging and anti-larvae spraying were conducted properly in their areas while three said fogging was done in their area but anti-larvae spray was done in their houses only.
Rajesh Singh Yadav (34) of Ashiana Sector K, whose mother Dhupna Yadav (60) and his daughter (6) were diagnosed with dengue, said: “My mother had to hospitalized and my daughter was diagnosed with dengue two days later. Had LMC and health department conducted fogging and anti-larvae spray, my daughter would have been safe.” Vinay Awasthi of Indiranagar, who was admitted to RMLIMS after getting diagnosed with dengue on November 11, said no fogging and anti-larva spray was done in his locality.
Saurabh Gautam (22) of Ashiana (Sector M) and his mother were diagnosed with dengue. Gautam claimed civic bodies were not taking preventive steps. Navneet Singh (22) of Alambagh and Harish Chander of Jankipuram Extension said anti-larvae spraying was done in their houses only and they were waiting for fogging.
Sandeep Chaudhary of Bangla Bazar said, “A day after I was diagnosed with dengue, an LMC and health team conduct proper anti-mosquito drive in my area.”
Denying any lapse, in charge of district vector-borne diseases unit, Dr VK Baiswar, said: “We are covering all areas. If any locality is left out, we will make sure that anti-larvae spray is done.” Additional municipal corporation Abhay Pandey said fogging was being carried out regularly and additional manpower had been arranged for it .
