PILIBHIT: The police on Wednesday arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly faking a robbery case in Pilibhit on Wednesday.
Prabhjot Singh, resident of village Simraya under the jurisdiction of Puranpur Kotwali police station, had claimed on Tuesday that two unidentified men opened fire at his car and looted 5 lakh cash on Monday night around 9 pm when he was returning to his home from Puranpur.
Superintendent of police, Atul Sharma, said this case has been cracked by the police as Prabhjot Singh, who was acting as a victim, has been held by the police for plotting a fake robbery to pay off his debts. Singh has been booked under IPC section 182 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person), 195 (fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of offence), 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and appropriate sections of The Arms Act, said SHO of Puranpur Kotwali police station, Ashok Pal.
Police said they also recovered Rs 3.8 lakh and a country-made pistol from his possession which he used to open fire at his car and cook up a fake narrative. Keshav Agarwal
