AGRA: A 35-year-old man opened fire at a ration shop in a UP village on Thursday afternoon after his demand to take only wheat, and not the rice-wheat combo, was rejected, leaving two people injured, one of them critical. The incident took place at Nagla Khirni village under Kotwali Chandpa police limits of Hathras district.
The accused has been identified as Jitender (first name available), a resident of neighbouring Parasara village. He demanded only subsidised wheat whereas the dealer purportedly insisted on giving him both wheat and rice.
A heated argument ensued. Jitender then left the place only to return minutes later with a country-made pistol and three of his aides.
He then fired randomly, critically injuring a 50-year-old man Kailash (first name available), who was waiting for ration. A bullet also struck the ration dealer’s son Salman Ahmed, 28, in his leg. Kailash was rushed to a local hospital and thereafter shifted to a higher medical facility in Aligarh.
Acting SHO of Chandpa, Aditya Shankar Tiwari, said, “The main accused, Jitender, and his three associates have been booked under various IPC sections, including 307 (attempt to murder). Efforts are on to arrest them.”
Tiwari added, “The incident took place following an argument between the ration dealer and the main accused. We are trying to collect more information about Jitender, his work and whereabouts. A police team has reached the spot to investigate the matter.”
