KANPUR: The district administration is serious about preventing road accident deaths, especially on highways. As per the record, out of 618 deaths reported in road accidents, the highest number had taken place on Kanpur-Sagar National Highway.
A joint team of the traffic and regional transport department is working to reduce deaths due to accidents on Kanpur-Sagar Highway. The joint team has suggested constructing ten-foot over bridges in some villages.
To identify the accident prone areas, the team will conduct a survey with the National Highway team. According to sources, the joint team had suggested construction of dividers at some places, especially in Ramaipur, to close Ramaipur crossing and raised there a divider.
Ten foot-over bridges will be constructed in the third phase of the project. The ten villages identified for foot overbridge are Anuppur curve, Sajeti, Patara towns, Jahangirabad. The team will soon identify villages between Naubasta and Bidhnoo. Anuppur curve, known as a black spot as it is the most accident prone area.
According to the traffic department, the team has suggested construction of a foot-bridge because the villages are situated on both sides of the road, and most of the accidents take place while crossing the road.
