LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday attacked the state government for “poor state of medical infrastructure”, claiming that a BJP MLA in Bahraich could not ensure proper treatment for his sister-in-law at a government hospital during a medical emergency.
“The BJP MLA from Mahsi had gone to Bahraich Medical College for treatment after his sister-in-law suffered a heart attack. The health workers could not even administer an injection to her for an hour. After a lot of efforts, someone from outside the hospital was called only then the treatment could be done. What will happen to the common man when the MLA of the ruling party is not being heard?” the SP chief said.
“Recently, due to the negligence of the staff nurse and doctors at the district women’s hospital in Balrampur, a newborn lost his life. The only reason was that the father of the baby could not give Rs 2,600 to the staff nurse in the name of delivery,” Yadav said.
He cited another case in Kushinagar where, he claimed, that the family members were forced to take the patient on a handcart as no ambulance was available.
Yadav said that in Unnao, a youth carried his mother’s body on a wheelbarrow while in Gonda, an attendant was charged Rs 2,000 even after a delivery happened in the ambulance.
“It is very difficult to get treatment at Lucknow’s KGMU. Senior doctors are not on duty and the system is running with the help of resident doctors. Serious heart patients are also unable to get treatment in Lari Cardiology,” Yadav said, adding that the Samajwadi Party government had started 108 ambulance service for critical patients and 102 ambulance service for pregnant women.
“There was arrangement for free treatment and medicines on a slip costing just Re 1. We ensured free treatment for patients of cancer, heart, kidney and liver ailments. The SP government set up a cancer hospital in Lucknow, but now it has been ruined by the BJP government,” he alleged.
