MEERUT: A 28-year-old man has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Meerut’s Ganga Nagar on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Abhishek, a resident of Ganga Nagar. He is into property dealing and has work-related links in Firozabad, too, a police officer said.
While giving details about the incident, a police officer said the survivor’s mother, a resident of a locality in Ganga Nagar, informed in her statement that the incident took place when her daughter went to a shop to get milk. When she did not return for about half an hour, the mother went to look for her. But the girl was nowhere to be found.
“After over 1 hour, my daughter returned home, shocked and in messed up clothes,” the mother said. The girl told her mother that a man forcibly dragged her into his car and took her to an isolated place where he “sexually assaulted” her.
“On mother’s complaint, a case was registered under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act in this regard,” the officer said.
During the probe, a police team checked the footage of a CCTV installed at a house near the crime spot and found the accused’s car number, from which his mobile number was found. The police then traced his location in Ganga Nagar. “A police team reached the spot and arrested the accused,” said station house officer, Ganga Nagar, Inspector Dinesh Pratap Singh
Police said that the girl has been sent for a medical examination.
The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
