PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj Mela Authority (PMA) has given its approval to over 150 projects which are to be completed at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore for Maha Kumbh 2025.
A proposal in this regard has been prepared by the authority after an important meeting, and the same would now be sent to the state government. After it is approved by a committee headed by the chief secretary, the details of the projects will be sent to the urban development department. After that, a notification will be issued in respect of all the projects and work on them would start from 2023 after completing the process of tender, etc., in January.
A marathon meeting, presided over by divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant and attended by Kumbh Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand, district Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Khatri, Magh Mela Adhikari Arvind Chuhan, etc., discussed in detail the work which would be undertaken by different departments. In view of Maha Kumbh, the tourism department’s work in the district will cost about Rs 100 crore. It has been decided to set up a museum on the Curzon Bridge. The load on the bridge has already been tested by the team of IIT-Roorkee. On the basis of this, the proposal to make a museum, selfie point, benches for people to sit and haats (kiosks) in between has been approved. The project is still waiting for a survey after which its DPR will be prepared and forwarded. Along with this, the road will be constructed from Nag Vasuki Temple, Dwadash Madhav Temple, Alopshankari Temple, Takshak Tirtha Temple to Lalita Devi Temple. Along with this, work would start around Bhardwaj Ashram. Five rail over bridges (ROBs) and more than 100 roads of the public works department (PWD), municipal corporation and PDA were selected to be widened. It was decided in the meeting that all the intersections of the urban area would be beautified.
Jal Nigam will build new water tanks under the Har Ghar Jal Yojana. The capacity of sub-stations of the power department will be increased at Beli and Civil Lines. There will be tapping of drains. There was a demand from the government for a supplementary budget of about Rs 2,000 crore for the Kumbh Mela. It was decided in the meeting that the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) will get the ropeway constructed at Sangam. Recently, a representative of the central agency had inspected the feasibility for constructing the ropeway. Its final report is yet to be received. So, it will be sent for the budget in the next meeting. Along with this, a proposal was made for the widening of 56 roads. All works have been approved. Five rail over-bridges are to be constructed in the district so that traffic is made smooth in view of Maha Kumbh. Among these, a total of three bridges are on the Prayagraj to Varanasi, Lucknow route, while one each will be built at Subedarganj and Naini.
The work of tapping of 68 drains will also start in view of Maha Kumbh. The work for Clean Ganga, Nirmal Ganga has already been approved. Officials say that this will solve the problem of pollution forever. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked to make a circuit by connecting Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Vindhyachal, Chitrakoot and Kashi. This was also discussed in the meeting. Departments are preparing DPR to connect all the religious places. Seven ghats have been selected in Trans-Yamuna for river front. It is expected that Rs 1,500 crore will be spent on this work.
