PRAYAGRAJ: A 20-year-old youth drowned in Yamuna allegedly while taking a selfie on a boat, under limits of Naini police station on Wednesday afternoon. The victim was identified as Martand, a resident of Anand Nagar.
Police said the victim along with one of his close relatives had come to Arail ghat for an outing. They hired a boat and was taking a selfie while standing on the boat when he slipped and fell into the river.
Hearing the cries of victim’s relative, local swimmers rushed towards the spot, but they could not trace the youth. Soon, a team of Naini police arrived at the spot and engaged swimmers, who fished out the body after half an hour of search. The body was later sent for postmortem.
