LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old man was bludgeoned to death allegedly by his elder brother in Nagram area on Thursday, police said.
Primary probe hints at a property dispute in the family, they said adding that a case of murder has been lodged and the accused detained.
DCP, South Zone, Rahul Raj, said deceased’s brother Dhruv Prasad told police that the accused Manoj is the eldest among the three siblings and is a drug addict. He often used to return home drunk and quarreled with the family.
“In the wee hours of Thursday, Manoj returned home in an inebriated state and began abusing his mother Sundara. His younger brother Dinesh raised objection. Irked over which this, Manoj and his wife Nisha hit Dinesh on the head with a heavy object. The couple along with their kids then fled from the spot,” Raj said.
Hearing his screams, locals reached the scene and spotted Dinesh in a pool of blood.
Later, the locals informed the police which rushed the victim to hospital where he died during treatment.
Police said Manoj is being questioned even as the body has been sent for postmortem.
Dinesh was unmarried and lived with his mother and Manoj while Dhruv lived separately with his family.
