LUCKNOW: The main accused in the murder of railway contractor in June this year surrendered in a Lucknow court on Friday after dodging cops of UP and Bihar for 6 months.
Firdaus was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest. Recently a local court had issued an NBW against him. He was also wanted by Bihar police in a murder case.
He surrendered in an old Arms Act case of 2018 registered in Lucknow. A senior police officer said Kushboo, the second wife of bed-ridden railway contractor Virendra Thakur aka Gorakh, had named Firdaus for her husband’s murder. Kushboo is a distant relative of Firdaus. Six aides of Firdaus were held earlier for Thakur’s murder and had named Firdaus as the mastermind.
On September 1, Lucknow police got non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against Firdaus. Meanwhile, Firdaus who had fled to Nepal, reached Narkatiaganj in Bihar and shot dead a property dealer Rajesh Srivastava on December 2.
“While raids started for his arrest in Bihar, Firdaus fled to Lucknow and surrendered in court,” said a senior officer. The officer said in July 2019, after a murderous assault on Virendra in Charbagh which had left him bed-ridden, Firdaus had fled to Bihar. ADCP, East Zone, Syed Ali Abbas, said police will take remand of Firdaus who has been lodged in a high security cell in Lucknow jail and is under CCTV vigil.
