LUCKNOW: The Ghazipur police attached properties worth Rs 8 crore in Lucknow belonging to jailed don Mukhtar Ansari‘s mother and an aide, on Saturday.
Additional director general of police, law and order, Prashant Kumar said Ansari’s property was attached as part of the state government’s campaign against listed mafias and gangsters in Uttar Pradesh.
“In our action against Mukhtar Ansari, we have so far seized properties worth Rs 289.9 crore and bulldozed illegal properties worth Rs 282.9 crore,” Kumar said.
Assistant commissioner of police, Hazratganj, Arvind Verma said that a police team from Ghazipur had come to Lucknow for attachment of properties belonging to Ansari’s mother Rabia Khatoon alias Rabia Begum and his gang member Ejaz-ul-Haq.
Police said that Rabia’s property measuring 386 square metres worth Rs 4.5 crore on Tilak Marg was seized while another plot measuring 231 square metres worth Rs 3.5 crore, belonging to Ejaz, was attached.
Police said a case of murder was registered against Ejaz in Ghazipur in 2005. Another case under the Gangster’s Act was registered against him at Mohammadabad police station in 2007. A case for attachment under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, was registered against Mukhtar Ansari by Mohammadabad police on December 8. Ejaz was also named in the case.
Recently, Mukhtar Ansari and aide Bhim Singh were sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Ghazipur MP/MLA court in a 26-year-old case.
