LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav called on his uncle Shivpal Yadav at his residence in Lucknow on Monday evening and said to have sought his uncle’s suggestions on reconstituting the executive committees of the party’s various units which were dissolved after the 2022 assembly results.
In political circles, the 90-minute closed-door meeting is seen as SP chief’s attempt to accord Shivpal Yadav the importance he deserved by seeking his suggestions and advice on key issues like reorganisation of the party units. Analysts feel the revamped SP units will include some of Shivpal’s trusted aides who have always stood by him.
The meeting will send out a message to the cadres that Shivpal has now got his voice back in SP which is reaching the party chief loud and clear. “Shivpal Yadav’s repeated complaint was that he was not getting the ‘samman’ (honour) in the party that he deserves. It seems that Akhilesh is addressing that grievance and properly enough. It also means that this time that family reunion may last,” said a political commentator.
Officially, however, the party described the meeting as a ‘family affair’. SP chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary confirmed the meeting. “I don’t know what the two discussed,” he said. Interestingly the meeting took place days after Akhilesh announced that the party’s frontal organisations will be reconstituted “at an auspicious time”. SP leaders said Makar Sankranti, celebrated on January 15, is considered an auspicious occasion.
This was the second time Akhilesh called on Shivpal since they resolved their differences ahead of the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypolls held last month. On November 22, Akhilesh and his wife Dimple had visited Shivpal at his Saifai residence to seek blessings for the bypoll. This was a day after Shivpal had asked his supporters in Etawah and Mainpuri to ensure ‘bahu’ Dimple Yadav’s victory.
