AGRA: In a desperate attempt to be reunited with his child, a 34-year old man in connivance with five accomplices-his mother, a school buddy and the others who were dressed as police officers-plotted, unsuccessfully, to kidnap his own son.
The incident took place in Agra’s Gopalpura area on Friday morning when the four-year-old child, a UKG student, was on his way to school in a private van. Police said a group of men donning police uniforms stopped the van.
The two of them acting as DSP and SHO, stopped the school van for checking and tried to abduct the child. On hearing the bus driver’s scream for help, local residents rushed and nabbed two men and a woman, and handed them over to police.
The father of the child, identified as Gaurav Singh Sikarwar, his 55-year-old mother Vandana Singh and fake SHO Vivek Tripathi are among the three who have been arrested.
The other accused, including the fake DSP, managed to flee. The child was rescued from the car in which the “pretend cops” had arrived.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Gaurav, a resident of Sikandra locality, was working as a software engineer at the Noida office of a top multinational company. He had a troubled relationship with his 32-year-old wife Vineeta Singh who left him three years ago and took the child along with her. She is currently staying with her father in Guhi Rampur, under Pindaura police station, in Agra.
“The couple married in 2017. After separation they had filed a divorce, which is pending in the district court. Gaurav made several attempts to meet his son but Vineeta didn’t allow him. In growing despair, he planned to kidnap his own son with his colleague Vivek. They have known each other since their school days,” said a senior police officer privy to the case. He added, “Vivek bought the police uniform and stars used by SHOs for Rs 2,000 from a shop in Chipitola market. He had also borrowed a licensed revolver from his father.”
SHO (Pindaura) Anil Kumar said, “An FIR has been registered against Guarav, Vandana and Vivek under IPC section 364 (kidnapping), 420 (cheating), 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt). The other accused, all associates of Gaurav and named in the FIR, are on the run. Efforts are on to arrest them.”
