KANPUR: Three farmers were killed and one other injured when a tractor in which they were travelling overturned and fell into a roadside ditch in Quan Kheda area on Etaura -Babina road under the limits of Kadaura police station in Jalaun district late on Saturday night.
Police expressed apprehension that the accident happened due to dense fog. The four had gone to a nearby vegetable market in Jolhupur to sell their pea crop on a tractor.
As they were heading back to the village, the tractor overturned and fell into a deep pit.
“The tractor overturned and the four came under it,” said the police. While three of them died on the spot, one other villager was rushed to the Community Health Center in Kadaura.
The deceased were identified as Bhurey Pal, (50), Lokendra (48) and Pratap Singh (55), all residents of Quan Kheda village. Manoj Kushwaha (25), suffered injuries.
The accident came to light in the morning when the locals of the area had gone out for a walk.
They saw four people trapped under the tractor and immediately informed the police. The police pulled them out and admitted them to the Kadaura Community Health Center, but the doctors declared all three dead while one injured is undergoing treatment.
Inspector-in-charge Kadaura Umakant Ojha said that how the accident happened is being investigated, but going by the preliminary investigations it seems that the accident happened due to dense fog. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary for postmortem, he added.
