KANPUR: Tight security arrangements have been made in the district in view of the Republic Day celebrations. Commissioner of Police BP Jogdand said besides policemen, several companies of PAC equipped with adequate security measures have been deployed across the prominent venues where the Republic Day function is being organised.
In addition, separate teams of the bomb disposal squad along with anti-sabotage check teams, have been deployed, he said and added, “The sniffer dog team, mounted policemen, fire personnel with fire tenders and quick response teams (QRTs), including a team of special sleuths, have intensified checking at vulnerable points across the district.”
Joint police commissioner Anand Prakash Tiwari said the police are keeping a strict vigil on important places like religious spots, railway station, bus stops, airport, government buildings, multiplexes, defence establishments, district jail, malls, etc.
GRP security staff at Kanpur Central Railway station and authorities at the malls have been instructed to install door frame metal detectors at the entry point of their establishments. Security checks are being conducted at hotels and guest houses close to railway stations and bus stations across the district.
Contractors of various parking lots have also been sensitised. “They have been asked to properly scan the identity of vehicle owners,” he added.Besides, hotel, dharamshalas and guest owners were asked to verify credentials of their customers, especially those staying for the past two or three days or arriving on Wednesday.
