LUCKNOW: Gurvinder Singh, 20, the class 12 student who shot at his principal Ram Singh Verma on the school premises on Saturday in Sitapur, was arrested on Sunday. His family had earlier claimed that he was a minor.

Police said that according to his birth certificate, Gurvinder was born in 2002.
Sitapur superintendent of police Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan told TOI that a .315 bore country-made pistol used by the accused was also recovered from his possession.
However, the accused did not reveal from where he purchased the weapon and got the ammunition. “He has been giving frivolous answers, like he spotted it lying in the fields and on the road,” said the SP.
The officer also said that so far, they have not got any criminal antecedent either of the accused or of any of his family members. The accused kept on repeating that the principal slapped him in front of all without any fault of his and humiliated him which prompted him to take such an action.
On Friday, the accused, and a minor (classmate), had entered into a brawl with a fellow student on the campus. The principal had summoned the two in his office and reprimanded them both. However, he held the accused responsible for the brawl saying that repeat of such an incident will lead to serious action and had also slapped him. On Saturday, the accused came to school armed and fired at Verma.
