VARANASI: Ahead of being physically produced before the MP-MLA court in Ghazipur on Monday to give evidence against arch-rival and mafia don Brijesh Singh in connection with a murderous attack on his fleet in Usarichatti in 2001, jailed mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was on Sunday booked in the murder case of his aide.
Shailendra Rai of Buxar (Bihar), father of Manoj Rai, who was among the three persons killed in Usarichatti shootout on July 15, 2001, lodged an FIR alleging that Mukhtar had murdered his son as he suspected that Manoj was working against the gang.
Inspector, Mohammadabad, Ashok Kumar Mishra said that on the complaint of Shailendra Rai, a named FIR was lodged against Mukhtar, his driver Surendra Sharma, Shahid, Gaus Moinuddin and Kamal, under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
“My son Manoj was murdered by Mukhtar and his aides in 2001. Due to Mukhtar’s terror, I did not open my mouth but when I was convinced that stern action was being initiated against him, I decided to reveal the facts related to my son’s murder case and seek justice,” Rai informed the police.
He said that Manoj worked for Mukhtar with full dedication but he filed some tenders in government departments without Mukhtar’s consent. “This irked Mukhtar who threatened Manoj of dire consequences. Manoj and I apologized to Mukhtar after which he allowed Manoj to work with him on the condition that he would not betray him again,” he said.
“On July 14, 2001, Mukhtar’s driver Surendra along with Shahid, Gaus and Kamal reached my house and took Manoj with them claiming that Mukhtar had called him for some important work. The next day, we came to know that Manoj had been murdered. The same night, two persons reached my home and informed me that Manoj was killed for betraying Mukhtar and this action will be a lesson for others. They also asked us to leave our home if we wanted to stay safe”.
Shailendra Rai said he took shelter at the places of his relatives for years. “Later, it came to light that Manoj was shown as one of the assailants in the Usarichatti case,” he said.
On July 15, 2001, the fleet of Mukhtar and his supporters was attacked in which three persons, including Mukhtar’s gunner and Manoj, were killed and nine others had suffered injuries in the exchange of fire.
Later, Mukhtar lodged an FIR against Brijesh, his close aide Tribhuvan Singh and 15 others.
Hearing in Usarichatti case is in progress at the court of additional district judge-1 (MP-MLA) Durgesh Pandey. The court has repeatedly asked Banda jail authorities to produce Mukhtar physically to give evidence against Brijesh.
However, the Banda jail and police officials could not produce him before court till the last hearing on January 17 citing different reasons. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Monday.
