KANPUR: Speaking at a public meeting at Jaswantnagar, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) chief Shivpal Yadav on Wednesday called upon the people to address Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and his nephew Akhilesh Yadav as ‘Chhote Netaji‘ (Junior Netaji).
Akhilesh’s father and SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav was reverently called ‘Netaji’. Jaswantnagar is an assembly constituency under Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat but is a part of Etawah district.
“I have accepted him (Akhilesh) as my leader, and I want people of not only here only, but of the state and whole country to refer to him as ‘Chhote Netaji’. Now, Akhilesh and I stand together and united and there should be no confusion about it,” Shivpal said.
“I was listening to the speech of Akhilesh in Karhal, in which he said that there is no leader like Netaji (Mulayam). And I want to tell one thing more to all of you that apart from ‘Netaji’, the people of Mainpuri and Etawah used to call Mulayam Singh Yadav as ‘Bade Mantri’ (senior minister) and me ‘Chhote Mantri’ (junior minister),” he said and added, “From here (Mainpuri) Netaji became MLA eight times and MP four times.”
Shivpal also appealed to the gathering to make Dimple Yadav win by a huge margin in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election. “Our ‘bahu’ (Dimple Yadav) should win by such a huge margin that the opposition may not be seen anywhere,” he said. He said that the Samajwadis are in fight with both the BJP and the district administration.
“Leaders, workers should be very careful. BJP is plotting and conspiring that there should not be much voting in Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election,” he said. He appealed to the workers that “if someone abuses then just tolerate it and don’t retaliate. Also, don’t even get into the police’s trap either”. He also attacked BJP candidate Raguraj Singh Shakya, who was once very close to him.
