KANPUR: A lawyer allegedly shot on and critically injured a headmistress of a basic government school and then shot himself in Etawah district on Tuesday evening. The lawyer fired seven bullets at the headmistress with his licensed revolver and then trained the gun on himself.
The lawyer died on the spot, while the headmistress is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Etawah. She was unconscious till late on Wednesday evening. Police are looking for the reason for the incident.
Abhilasha Yadav (43) wife of Avnish Yadav, a resident of Kokpura Shala village under Friends Colony police station area, is the headmistress of Jugramau Primary School. She had taken some insurance policy from Sudhir Yadav of Abhinaypur village of Basrehar area. Along with working as an agent in an insurance company, Sudhir was practising law in the district court for the past four months.
Police rushed to the spot after being informed about the shooting. The team recovered a liquor bottle, a glass, slippers and lawyer’s bike from the crime scene. SSP Jai Prakash Singh and other cops visited the spot and also the hospital where the headmistress was undergoing treatment.
“It seems that the lawyer was under the influence of alcohol. Later, he had a fight with Abhilasha over some issue and then he apparently opened fire at her and then ended his life by shooting himself,” the SSP said.
He added, “We are waiting for Abhilasha to regain consciousness so that the whole picture becomes clear.”
