LUCKNOW: To provide citizens with easy accessibility to the legal system within a single compound, the state government has proposed setting up integrated court campuses in all districts. The campus will house all kinds of courts under one roof and, under a pilot project, will be set up first in the districts of Mahoba, Hathras, Chandauli, Shamli, Amethi, Hapur, Auraiya, Sonbhadra, Sambhal and Chitrakoot.
“The project will help expedite the judicial process and save people time in running from one court to the other. A fund of Rs 400 crore has been proposed in supplementary budget, passed by the Assembly, to set up such courts in 10 districts,” a government spokesperson said, adding that Supreme Court has asked states to construct such courts.
Speaking in the Assembly on the budget, the CM said that timely delivery of justice was essential for good governance and therefore, the government is going to construct integrated court complexes in 10 districts. A team of officials from UP has already visited Baroda in Gujarat to study the integrated court complex model which has been implemented there.
After the visit, the CM held a meeting to discuss the action plan for the project. “The CM has said that according to different nature of crimes, the number of courts dealing with different aspects of law have also increased. These courts are scattered, functioning from different places while many courts run in rented buildings.
This, he said, causes difficulties to both judicial officers and litigants,” the spokesperson said. In addition to this, there is also a problem in providing security and administrative arrangements for so many courts, the CM said, adding that in view of this, integrated court campuses can be very useful. Departments of public works, home, and law and justice are working on the project.
An official said that the integrated building will have space for courts, judges’ chambers, meeting hall, video courts, parking, food plaza and canteen. There will also be residential buildings on the campus. Among courts, the campus will have district and subordinate courts, commercial courts, miscellaneous courts, tribunals, fast track courts and lok adalats etc
