Police sources told TOI that on Saturday morning, a heavy truck and a dumper were majorly damaged in the accident that involved three heavy trucks.
The incident took place when at around 5.30am, a gravel-laden dumper heading towards Lucknow from Kanpur, when in front of Jagdishpur village of Ajgain Kotwali area, a DCM truck transporting consignment of wood rammed into it from behind.
Soon another heavy truck coming from behind crashed into the DCM.
The fire broke out due to short-circuit following the collision of three trucks simultaneously.
The fire was so severe that the driver of the wood-laden DCM truck and driver and his assistant of a dumper vehicle, died of serious burns.
On the information of the incident, police teams from Dahi-Chowki, Ajgain and Sohramau police stations along with fire tenders reached the spot and tried to douse the fire.

Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased with the help of the registration number plates of the vehicles.
Circle Officer Hasanganj Deepak Kumar Singh, who rushed to the spot told TOI that the incident probably occurred when the driver of the vehicle that was in front must have applied brakes suddenly due to which the DCM truck rammed into it at high speed.
“Fire apparently ignited due to wood loaded in one of the trucks,” CO said and added,” Tonnes of wood reduced into ashes.”
The police have registered a case and initiated investigation in this regard.
