VARANASI: Close on the heels of Shraddha Walkar murder case in the national capital Delhi, severed body parts of a woman were found in a well at Ahraula area in Azamgarh on Tuesday. In Delhi, food blogger Aftab Poonawala allegedly killed his live-in partner, Shraddha, cut her body into 35 pieces and dumped them across the city.
In Azamgarh, police have fished out the chopped hands, legs and torso dumped in a well in Pashchim ka Pura village along the Durvasa-Gahaji Road in the district while the head of the victim is missing.
Some local villagers noticed the body in the well, about 150 meters from Pashchim ka Pura village, on Tuesday morning and alerted the police. After getting information, Ahraula cops reached the spot and reported the matter to higher-ups.
During initial investigation, only an undergarment was found on the body while the legs and hands were floating near it inside the well. The severed head was missing, local police said.
Azamgarh SP Anurag Arya, who inspected the site, said: “After fishing out the torso, hands and legs of the unidentified woman, pumps were installed to evacuate water for searching the missing head but it couldn’t be found. Forensic experts and the dog squad had also been summoned. Senior officers are investigating the matter. After recovering the mutilated body, other evidence is also being collected from the spot.”
“Identity of the murdered woman has yet not been ascertained. Efforts are being made to establish her identity first, after which other details like her age and whereabouts would become clear,” said Arya, adding, “The recovered parts of the body will be kept in the mortuary for three days to complete the process of identification after which the postmortem would be conducted.”
“Initially, the police tried to check nearby villages and all police stations of the district to know whether a woman of 20-30 years of age was missing”, he said, mentioning that as no such missing case was reported in the district, an alert had been sounded across the state about any missing woman of that age.
Regarding outcomes of the initial investigation, police said “the well, in which the chopped body had been dumped, is situated along a road connecting remote areas and movement of people there is very low. It is understood that the killer is well aware about the area”.
Shraddha Walkar, a 29-year-old woman was strangled allegedly by her live-in partner 28-year-old Aftab Poonawala of Mumbai, who chopped her body into nearly 35 pieces and kept them in a fridge for nearly 20 days before gradually dumping them across Delhi.
