MUZAFFARNAGAR: A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter in Khatauli area of UP’s Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Friday when the teen’s mother had gone to her maternal grandmother’s house in the district along with her other two children, and the girl was alone with her father at home.
The crime came to light after the girl informed her mother about it, who then rushed back home and took her daughter to the police station to lodge a complaint in the matter. The minor’s mother in her complaint said that her husband had attempted to rape their daughter once in the past, too, but she didn’t file any complaint at the time due to stigma, “fearing society will look down upon us”.
Based on their complaint, a case under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of the Pocso Act has been registered against the accused, said deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Khatauli, Ravi Shankar.
The accused has been sent to jail, he said. Further investigation is underway in the matter, added the DSP.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
